My first year of high school in the healthcare program consisted of learning medical terminology, pharmacology, and nursing skills in class; however, during my senior year, I had the privilege of attending clinics at local nursing homes, hospitals, and veterinary clinics. The clinical program in the health care program, in high school, was an eye-opening experience and involved shadowing the nurses I was assigned to. I had the opportunity to see what nurses have to deal with and it takes a special person. My experience in the health care program and working first-hand with sick and elderly patients has supported and confirmed that I have what it takes to become a nurse. I enjoyed the experience of shadowing nurses so much that I volunteered at the Lowman Home, a nursing home in my community during my free time while in high school. I was assigned to work with an elderly patient suffering from Alzheimer's; I read, played and interacted with patients; I love seeing the smile I put on their faces by taking my time
