Malawi is a small country slightly smaller than Pennsylvania in south-central Africa. It has a large lake that covers much of the country's eastern border. Lake Malawi is the third largest lake in Africa and reaches 900 meters deep in some areas ("The Fact of the World"). The climate is subtropical with a rainy season and a dry season. Malawi is usually divided into three different sections when talking about the country. The three different sections are Northern Malawi and Central Malawi, where the capital Lilongwe ("The Fact of the World") is located. The third section is called Southern Malawi. The southern part of the country has lands on both its eastern and western borders, unlike central and northern Malawi. Malawi is known as the “warm heart of Africa”. The reason it is known as the “warm heart of Africa” is because the country is relatively peaceful compared to the civil unrest that is occurring in many African countries. It is also known as the “warm heart of Africa” because its natives are kind to everyone (Westberg & Westberg, 2013). Malawi has recently become a popular tourist area. Malawi has beautiful lakes, fantastic safaris and peace of mind regarding safety ("The fact of the world") Malawi has a rich history and culture, it has wonderful art, theatre, music and architecture which can be seen as you walk through a any of the major cities in Malawi. Malawi is thought to be the home of ancient human ancestors. In 1991, a jawbone was found whose carbon dates back two million years (Malawi, 2004) It was a very busy time for the region that would later become Malawi The Portuguese, Arabs and other Central African tribes they held power in that region for a period of time... mid-paper... really friendly. to their guests in all aspects of life. Malawi is known as Africa for beginners, the people who live there are extremely friendly, courteous and respectful, especially towards visitors and guests (Clarke, 2009). welcoming a complete stranger into your family. Malawi has a rich culture that includes values, art, education and food which, when combined, make for a country of extremely friendly people. Tribes and countries from around the world have influenced Malawian culture. Malawi's culture is very unique as an African country, due to all the different influences. Popular music in Malawi ranges from traditional African music to Swedish techno, which shows how diverse Malawian culture is. Malawi's culture will continue to be influenced by external sources as its popularity as a travel destination slowly increases.
