Topic > A Teacher's Guide to the Holocaust: The Nuremberg Laws

Jews were specifically selected to be killed by the Nazis. The Nazis also killed gypsies, homosexuals, etc., but the Nazis sought to completely erase the “race” of the Jews. According to Six Million Crucifixions, most Germans had been raised to naturally hate Jews and blame them (“The Holocaust”). Hitler blamed the Jews for everything, including the loss of World War I, and most people saw them as different, so they singled them out and blamed them for all the chaos that happened in Germany (“The Holocaust”). According to A Teacher's Guide to the Holocaust, Hitler passed the Nuremberg Laws which were laws that described who was Jewish (“Victims”). Some people who were not even Jewish were suspected by the Nazis because of these laws he passed (“Victims”). In my opinion, this was obviously unfair to the Jews because no one listened to them. Children are told to always obey their parents and listen to what they have to say, so you can see how this view of hating Jews caught on quickly. When you're little you don't know about politics. Since you know nothing about politics, it is normal to follow what your parents believe since they are older and wiser. This same type of process occurred in Germany during the Holocaust. Most children didn't know much about the Nazis or Hitler, so they followed what their parents told them. Parents told their children everything the Nazis told them to tell their children. So the children grew up loving Hitler and hating the Jews. If you grew up believing a certain way, you won't understand anything different. For example, if I came to you and told you that pigs can fly you wouldn't believe me because they always told you that pigs could never fly... middle of paper... some of you should have thought about it a little more . People also succumbed to peer pressure when they believed rumors about Jews. There were rumors about how bad and evil the Jews were, and no one gave them a chance. Obviously, it's all Hitler's fault for devising this scheme. Personally I think the Germans should also receive a share of the blame. The Holocaust was a truly scary time in history, and it's something we can learn about today. Works Cited "The German Churches and the Nazi State". United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
