Certainly, attempting to rewrite the Constitution takes time, money, and diligence, with no guarantee of success. Even completely rewriting the Constitution could be a risky undertaking (Brown et al. 74). The drafters of the new constitution should take special precautions to ensure that many of the positive aspects of the current constitution are not changed. For example, the Texas Constitution provides for the Texas Equal Rights Amendment (ELRA) which states: “Equality under the law shall not be denied or abridged because of sex, race, color, creed or national origin” (Texas Constitution art. i, sec. 3). Although proposed, the equivalent Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the United States Constitution was never passed.
