“He helped shape the agenda of the Sixties – socially and politically, no less than musically” (“John Lennon”). John Lennon was extremely influential in the world during his lifetime, and especially during the 1960s. He fueled many movements with his strong belief in peace and happiness. John Lennon's actions and music dramatically altered the way many people saw the world around them during the 1960s and throughout his life. John Lennon was very outspoken and contributed greatly to his peacekeeping mission. “It has become an increasingly important symbol of the burgeoning counterculture” (DeCurtis). John went against the normal actions and beliefs of society and spoke out. He always expressed his true opinions and nothing else. This is because he believed in questioning authority and not conforming at all. "[He] helped redefine the rules of acceptable behavior for rock stars" (DeCurtis). This once again demonstrates his desire to stand out and speak out. He reformed many ideas and practices that needed reform and some that did not. But whatever he did, he always supported the fight for peace. Even when it wasn't about politics or defending peace, he behaved differently from what the majority of the population expected of him. “How agreements can change the world. To me that's John Lennon” (Ono 117). John thought change was necessary and intended to do everything he could to ensure it happened. “A man who stood up!” (Ono 117). John expressed and conveyed his beliefs, regardless of the consequences. His immense support for the fight for peace has helped more and more people see a different side of the world. John continued to fight for peace and change around the world.
