Provides teachers with understanding of subject matter, curriculum content and teaching strategies (AITSL, 2014). With knowledge of APST, teachers know how to support student wellbeing and safety, working within the school curriculum and system and legislative requirements. Teachers should follow Standards 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, and 2.4 to improve inclusion and diversity in the classroom. These standards provide knowledge on how to demonstrate understanding of differentiated teaching strategies to include students from different cultures, backgrounds, languages, and religions. Topic area 1.5 helps teachers demonstrate their understanding of differentiating instructional strategies to meet students' specific learning needs based on their needs.
