Since the 1800s, America has undergone gradual change that would further change the lives of Americans. Americans constantly debate whether or not immigration is beneficial to the country and its people. This is why immigrants have difficulty assimilating, and especially joining, American culture. While some argue that immigrants have been cultural benefactors to American society, others argue that they rather pose a threat to all that is American. Immigrants, who believed their freedom would come from America, found the exact opposite of what they expected. As an immigrant, coming to the United States from a foreign country brought imminent hardship and hardship. As Foner simply puts it, "the early 20th century was a time of massive immigration to the United States" (VF p.73). Of these immigrants, many believed that the United States was a land of freedom and opportunity; a new beginning for their lives. These immigrants came from Europe, Mexico, Canada, and many other countries. Similar to the Santellas in Gamio's research, the immigrants appreciated American life, for the comfort, tranquility and fewer dangers compared to their previous home (VF p.75). America became the safe haven for immigrants who did not agree with the lifestyle of the countries they lived in and for those who preferred the life of peace to that of struggle. The Santella family continues to be a shining example, as a family whose Their desire is to make their life, especially that of their children, much better than that of Mexico, which at the time was seriously suffering due to the Revolution Mexican. The children assimilated easily into American culture, with paid employment…… mid-paper…… (GML p.1113). Although the movement was very large, immigrants and the government could not agree on their conditions and it has become a sensitive issue to talk about today. Immigration has been an issue that has come up many times over the past few centuries, with two sides to each topic. : Immigration is beneficial or harmful to American society. Foreigners, tempted by the siren call of freedom and happiness, came to the United States to discover what seemed to be the opposite. Immigrants faced many challenges assimilating into American culture, leaving behind cultures that were once their life. As time passed, anti-immigration seemed to have disappeared, but its shadow looms over America as a sensitive issue. Immigrants have come far from what they faced in the past as they struggled to find the freedom they craved.
