Pure water, better from a plastic bottle or from the tap?Zack BraaschCS220: English CompositionFebruary 15, 2014THIS IS A DRAFTThe idea that the water in the newly purchased clear plastic bottle is pure; purer than the water that flows from the tap is the fundamental reason for the choice, one over the other. Millions and millions of people make this choice every day with a certainty anchored in the trust that the name of the company printed on the plastic bottle guarantees them. The choice and use of this source of pure water is at the center of a growing controversy. More importantly, this choice has become both a personal and environmental health issue that has grown far beyond what anyone had anticipated before, when it seemed absurd to pay for a bottle of water when you could drink for free straight from the tap. Further contributing to the growth of water in a plastic bottle around the world, we have expanded our love affair with the prestige of a branded water bottle associated more with its status rather than its purity and thirst-quenching ability. Essentially we were sold a lie, not a promise. We were deceived, not insured. We have been seduced, and unethically inspired, into a drinking behavior that is destroying our personal budget and setting an ecological time bomb that will make the environment of our children's future toxic. To address this futuristic hydro-apocalypse, I am proposing a radical solution that addresses this silently growing disaster through a three-point pincher strategy aimed at number one; a massive re-education of the population and a cost-effective domestic practice of tap water filtration aimed at teaching the merits and benefits of this new pa... middle of paper...
