The company that owns www.turnitin.com also owns the website www.writecheck.com, which helps “students [avoid] getting caught for plagiarism” (Luzer). Additionally, the cost-efficiency of www.writecheck.com is attractive to students familiar with it because “a 5,000-word article” is priced at six dollars and ninety-five cents (Luzer). In essence, students use www.writecheck.com as a tool to fly under the radar of www.turnitin.com (Luzer). As Internet usage increases, students may begin to discover not only www.writecheck.com, but many other similar websites as well. College professors who use www.turnitin.com and similar websites end up believing that their students have no knowledge of websites that allow students to avoid getting caught cheating. If professors really knew how easy it is for students to plagiarize and get away with it, then they would limit the use of www.turnitin.com and other similar websites.
