Explain that there are two factors that lead to childhood obesity. These factors are sugar and the lack of “play” of today's children (April 2014). Sugar is present in almost every treat that kids eat, from the obvious sodas and sports drinks, to the not-so-obvious yogurt and milk. Almost everything that children, as well as adults, consume contains sugar (April 2014). Most children today own some type of electronic device, whether it's an iPad, laptop, or Kindle. Today, children are discouraged from going outside and encouraged to play with these devices (April 2014). Dawn Harsley presents her position on this hot topic. He states that because sugars and sweets are so much cheaper, most parents will give their children those unhealthy options because they are less expensive (April 2014). Expenses are certainly no excuse for not giving children the best options available to them. Parents could easily find other options, however, it won't be easy
