Advertising is everywhere. On your way to work, you gaze at the flawless faces of celebrities glued to the back of a bus. In the office you notice that the right side of your computer screen tells you to “save money” and “live better.” Finally, when you get home, you sit back and turn on the television only to find out which pop star is using the newest acne solution because it "really works." It is undeniable that advertising has a significant impact on American society. It fuels capitalism and fuels the cycle of material ownership and financial benefit; however, in doing so, consumers are manipulated with unethical tactics and filled with unnecessary desires. When it comes to advertising, there is a fine line between information and manipulation. Although companies spend a great deal of money and effort to enlighten the world about the existence of a new product that could potentially improve the lives of their consumers, the messages behind these advertisements “can make us dissatisfied with who we are and greedy for what we don't do it."
