This tale contains not only horror, but also a mystery. The main character is the unnamed narrator; also, an old man and the police are mentioned throughout the story. At the beginning of his story, the narrator began to describe his special ability to sharpen his senses. He had the ability to feel practically anything. There were many things other humans were unable to do. Despite this, this ability has not always benefited his well-being. As the story progresses, the narrator mentions an old man. He also says that he was very kind to this old man; however, this act of kindness was before it killed him. The narrator's initial drive to kill this man was due to the old man's unusual eye. He describes his eyes as “pale blue with a film over them” (Poe np). This eye made the narrator anxious. Soon he began going to the old man's room every night. Without making a sound, he would enter his room at night and light a lantern so he could see the eye. The narrative described this eye as his “Evil Eye” (Poe np). Terror began to strike the narrator's mind. He took the old man and killed him by throwing the bed on top of him. Once the narrator could no longer hear the heartbeat or see the eyes, he began to think about how to get rid of the corpse. Carrying the body into the bathtub, he cut off the head, arms and legs; placing them under the floor. After cleaning everything up, it seemed like nothing had happened. At 4pm police officers showed up at the door of the elderly man's house because they had received noise complaints. After checking the house and finding nothing, the police took refuge in the house. The narrator felt as if he had been in the house for a long time and slowly began to feel guilty. Shortly thereafter he began to hear
