Topic > Guns on Campus - 521

We should all be allowed to carry a gun to protect ourselves and our families from those who want to harm us. Gun control is a topic that seems to be one of our nation's biggest concerns. Every night it seems like we witness a new horror story of innocent lives being taken by bullets from a locally purchased gun. Our free nation has become a war zone right before our eyes. Our schools and college campuses have become the targets of those who abuse the right to carry concealed weapons. Our Constitution states that we have the right to bear arms, to protect ourselves and our families. For centuries, our ancestors have carried weapons for many uses in their daily lives. Pilgrims used these weapons as a reliable way to provide fresh meat for the family. Not only was it a way to provide food, but it was also an excellent source of protection against wild animals and mischievous Indians. In the 1800s, students were allowed to bring guns to school, to protect themselves from wolves and bears. Unlike today's society, children back then had to travel on foot and most of the time alone. So it seems like guns are a good thing. As time passes, cultures change and people change. Gun laws have become very strict and a person must have a legal permit to carry a gun into a public facility. Unfortunately, gun misuse has become a problem in America. School shootings have become more rampant. While we should all have the right to protect ourselves, we should limit access to guns on our school campus. When children do not receive an adequate education at home, they are at greater risk of becoming a problem in the school setting. If a troubled child or adult does not have access to guns at home, they may very well target those who do have access to guns, especially those on campuses. Children are shooting each other, and sadly, they are also doing the most disturbing and heartbreaking thing a child can do, and that is committing suicide. There are many debates about guns to bring to school and what we need to do to protect our children. children. As Americans, we have the constitutional right to own, purchase and use a gun. But it is our responsibility to do a mature thing with a weapon, just like our ancestors did.
