Bullfighting began in 1133, when the first historic Corrida de Toros was organized in honor of the coronation of King Alfonso VIII in Vera, Logroño. The bullfight happened whenever there was a special event in the city. From that day, bullfighting became very popular not only in Spain, but also in Portugal, southern France and some Latin American countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru. Although it is considered a “blood sport,” some followers of this spectacle call it a “fine art” and not a sport. This great show is a Spanish tradition. Bullfights consist of professional bullfighters or matadors (higher reach than the bullfighter) who attract the bull with their capote, a piece of red cloth so that the bull can attack and expose its qualities and courage to the public to be forgiven and can be put back into the field, but in most cases they carry them out. There are a couple of reasons why people support bullfighting; for example because it is a cultural tradition and is also considered “fine art”, but this topic is very controversial and most people are against it due to animal cruelty. However, people against it should take a few things into consideration. For years bullfighting has been perceived as a cultural tradition. By this I mean an important part of Spain's historical and regional heritage. There is great prestige associated with this art, and to deny the people of those countries where bullfights are held the pleasure that the "sport" brings them would be to deny them an essential part of their culture. The bull is not perceived by followers as a sacrificial victim, but is seen by the public as a worthy adversary and as a beautiful creature who respects his... half of the card... his heritage. Overall, I personally think that whether you support bullfighting or not, you should respect the traditions and cultures of others. We all know that this topic is very controversial and polemical. Personally, I am a follower of this tradition and this spectacle and, as I have already said, I will do everything in my power to support and protect bullfighting so that it is never banned. And if you are against animal cruelty, there are still people who are against it and continue to eat meat. I think if you call yourself an animal advocate and you're against it you should stop eating meat. My mother, Guadalupe Monterrubio, has been a bullfighting fanatic since she married my father. She said: "If I had never met your father, I think I would never have liked bullfights, but I'm glad I did, it's such a beautiful and colorful tradition." Long live bullfighting!
