Lying, cheating, breaking promises and stealing "A man without ethics is a wild beast released into this world" is a quote that Albert Camus once said many years ago, however it is still quite current today. People are starting to lose their sense of ethics and more and more “wild beasts” are being released into our society. This society is starting to look darker and darker and it's hard to believe it will ever get better, but some people believe that one day it will. There are many reasons why our society seems to be failing, but I believe the four main reasons are lying, cheating, breaking promises, and stealing. First of all, lying is a highly debated topic and most people believe that lying can be good or bad depending on the situation. Cheating is most common in marriages, competitive competitions, and school work. Although there are several ways a person can cheat, they are all just dishonest acts that help someone gain something. Cheating could be as petty as not quite touching the line during timed sprints, or as serious as adultery. Surprisingly enough, “up to 60% of all spouses will be involved in some form of infidelity at least once during their marriage.” (26 Surprising Statistics About Cheating Spouses). I hate to think that only forty percent of marriages will be free of cheating, but that's what the world has come to. If you still don't believe that cheating is a problem that has grown astronomically in recent decades, listen to this quote from Stanford University: "While about 20 percent of college students admitted to cheating in high school in the 1940s, Today, between 75 and 98 percent of college students surveyed each year report cheating in high school (ENGR110/210). That's an increase of 55 to 78 percent in just seven decades of high schools who admit to cheating. Cheating happens millions of times a day in our society and shows no potential for abatement because people are not punished for cheating when in reality they are.
